Calling all Chateau Mont Choisi Ex-Students

My name is Daniela Peregrina (Hernandez), I recently began to organize my pictures and in the process, my son asked me about some pictures, as I looked through them, I told my son about my studies abroad at the Institute Chateau Mont Choisi, and he quickly inquired, can you show me a picture of the school, I proceeded to do a search on the Internet and was saddened to read that the school shut its doors. No other information was available, only some resumes had the name in their content, and I also found another blog with a quick story about a fire :)

I left before the end of the 1987-88 school year, and was never able to get a copy of the year book. I have recently found another ex-student of CMC and we have been doing "detective" work, trying to put pieces together. She was a student during 1986-87 and we are trying to track down anyone with a 1987-88 copy of the year book, that would be willing to share some pictures. I actually took many of them and have some of the originals still in my possession.

We also wondered, what happened to Dr. Peterson (or Dr. Pitty as we called him) ... Dr. P. if you are out there....Hopefully you will find us too!

This blog is an effort to reunite the Students of CMC, whether you were a student 30 years ago, or of the last generation, we would love to hear from you!

This is the beginning, I will start a web page as soon as we start seeing response to this blog. It will have a message board and chat room for the members. Keep posted, and please do post a response, we would love to hear from you!

If you would like to email me any pictures or a story or just contact me, my email for this blog is: chateaumontchoisi@yahoo.com (I have used the chateau's name for the blog and my email for easy reference)

I look forward to the detective work along with my new friend from Canada!! We are both excited about finding the pieces and clues, and hopefully a copy of the 87-88 yearbook!

In the spur of the moment I decided to google the school in case it still existed. It all started because I smelled the freshness of the sheets on the bed and it reminded me of the ironed sheets from boarding school.

I was a teacher for the 1973-74 school year and wanted to share my memories. I was 25 years old that year, not much older than my students, and really enjoyed teaching there. My husband was working at IMEDE (now IMD) in Lausanne and we were spending a year before he went back to finish his PhD at the University of Virginia. We had no children and spent all of our free time that year traveling (when we weren't working).
I taught English and History (the history part was a real stretch)to grades 7-12; some classes were tiny and I we didn't meet every day. So here are my memories:
*Mademoiselle Wirz was easy to work for in that she left me alone as long as everything seemed to be going well--which it did. She didn't want to get too involved with any problems. I remember talking to her about my concerns that some of the girls were developing eating disorders. She didn't want to hear about it.
*I remember watching Princess Anne's wedding on television in the chateau where we all gathered.
*Elsa Desrochers (sp?)taught math and we became good friends. I lost touch with her and her husband Dave years ago.
*I have found my grade books from that year and several students stand out in memory:
My seniors from Spain, Maria Jose Sellart and Esperanza Balcazar. You were both such lovely, mature girls and so bright. You were a delight to teach. Remember our discussions of For Whom the Bell Tolls?
Nahid Nawab from Iran. You had so much personality and you were so enthusiastic about your country. I often wondered what happened to all of you from Teheran in the following years.
Mai Yamani. You were so smart and diligent that it's no surprise that you are such an outstanding woman. I enjoy reading about all of your academic accomplishments.
My American students who always kept me entertained, especially the following:
Suzanne Shapiro--you were so homesick and wanting to out of there. We spent lots of time talking about your situation.
Tobey Cotsen--You provided us all with lots of great Neutrogena products from home. I think of you whenever I see the brand.
Julia and Susie Zsigmond: You were such pretty girls and close sisters. I thought of you when your father won the Academy Award for cinematography.
Luz Maria Montes: I remember your sunny disposition
Irene Vogel: I remember your sense of humor. I still have the stamp you gave me!
I know there were many more students who I enjoyed, but those come to mind. You all may remember that I had a party at my apartment in Lausanne and served typical American food that teenagers enjoy, potato chips and dip, chocolate chip cookies, soda. You all seemed to really enjoy being sprung from the chateau for an evening. We walked you to the bus stop afterward.
I would love to hear from anyone from that year, especially if you are in the Boston area where we've lived since 1975. I teach English at Northeastern University where my husband teaches Business. I have two grown children, a daughter who's married and living in NYC and a son in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I'm happy to have shared these memories and hope they reach some of you. I agree it's sad the school no longer exists. You can email me at laurawalkerdunn@gmail.com

I lived there from 1970 to 1973. I lived all over the place at the school because I was ALWAYS getting into trouble. I lived at the Chateau at first, got into trouble, and they moved me to the Bercail. I got into trouble again, and they moved me back to the Chateau. ADD much? I think so.

There was a German speaking nurse at the Bercail who was always on my case. When the Americans landed on the moon, I moved the TV to my room to watch (after hours, of course), and I remember the nurse being apoplectic as she moved the TV out of my room. It fell off the stand, and my dad got the bill. He did not blame me for that because it was the moon landing afterall. Next semester, he received a bill for a door that I busted through sliding down on a rug down the hall. I had so much fun with the girls, skiing, ice-skating, etc. I remember an American girl falling out of the window at the Chateau. She was sitting on the ledge with Ivy Vogel at the time; but I do not remember her name. The English teacher rode to the Hospital with her in the ambulance.

I remember buying sandwiches and beer at the store around the corner, dancing in my room to loud music, playing tennis, riding horses, riding the bus, going to France on Spring Break and Zermatt for Winter Break. Keep in mind that I was not even 15 at the time.

I remember one Canadian girl running away and marrying someone she met from town who lived in South America and moving there with him. I remember all sorts of things. I remember Anne Marie from the other side of Switzerland, Tobey Cotsen from Beverly Hills, Julia and Susie Zsigmond from Studio City, CA. I had so much fun visiting Tobey, Julia and Susie when I was in Los Angeles. I wish more people would list this school on facebook so we could find each other. Did you know that Julia and Susie's dad filmed Deliverance?

I remember Mai and her sister.

And from Ms. Dunn's post, what girls' school would be complete without the eating disorders. I remember some girls wasting away on some pretty radical diets, bananas and milk, a one yogurt a day diet, etc.

Finally, I remember that depending on what was going on in Israel, and with the extreme dieting that was going on in the school, I could usually get an extra Jaffa Orange or two from whoever was boycotting the Jaffa Oranges. I remember the Jaffa Oranges, the bread, and one meat dish with a pesto-looking sauce. I wish I had the recipe for that meat dish. Yum!

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Ms. Dunn for all of my pre-teen and teen angst!

I can be found on facebook. Look for Aimee Robson Morris in San Diego, CA.

Hello,
The reason why I am writing this entry in the blog is that I am trying to get in touch again with my girlfriend at that time, Chantal Habes from Belgium.

Chantal spent one year in CMC, and that must have been anywhere between 81 and 84, I do not remember exactly when.

What I do know, however, is that around that time there was another girl from Belgium. Her name was Martine Hoek. Maybe you knew her as well.

I visited Chantal once in CMC. Apparently, I was not supposed to drive up to the villa with my car. Chantal told me afterwards that her entire class had been watching us when we embraced each other in front of the villa and that she had been reprimanded by Mme. Wirz.

Shortly after her stay at CMC Chantal and I broke up, but I would like to see her again and that is why I am contacting you.

I have completely lost track of her, and we have no friends in common, so I do not know how to locate her, even though Belgium is only a small country.

If you have heard anything from her ever since, or if you can give me any information as to her whereabouts, directly or indirectly, I would appreciate your help.

Kind regards,
Stefan Loeners
Belgium

Salut mes amies!! I attended CMC in '71 - '73!! I was from CA - Debbie Basham. Aimee Robson Morris!! I so remember you - how could you have been in more trouble than me!! The girl who fell out of the window, was Robyn Teszler, from Spartanburg, SC - she was my BFFL! Mrs. Salzburg, was the English teacher who rode to the hospital with her. Mlle Wirtz brought me in to explain her injuries to her parents and go to the hospital with her. I have to find my pictures!!! Nora - I remember you too!! What fun I would love to connect with more ladies from there - I left (was kicked out?) and went to boarding school in Hawaii, where I graduated. Get in touch ladies. Email me at debjaloha@gmai.com - or FB Debbie Basham Jones. I am still in touch with Robyn Teszler, and was with Charmaine Bunting from Jamaica!!

Hello! My sister and I attended CMC during the school year, 1964-65. We are twins from California, and our names then we're Betti and Bobbi Berol. We lived in the castle, I had a wonderful view of the lake and mountains from my bedroom. My roommates were Gigi from Venezuela, Claudia from Switzerland and Sharon from Louisiana. I also remember the sisters Leslie and Tony Bobbiese, Cuckoo Tubman and her cousin Prudence, a white girl from South Africa, and numerous South American girls, a girl from the Dutch Heineken family, and many others..my sister and I are currently in Lausanne with our husbands. we took a walk yesterday to try to find the old school but were unable to remember the exact location. I have not been able to find an address or street name. The trams still run into Lausanne along the street named Mont Choisi, and we have many fun memories of going to the Italian pizza place in the Old Town during our Friday excursions into Lausanne. Like many others, I treasure the time I spent at Chateau Mont Choisi and the experiences I had there.

Hello! I remember Cuckoo Tubman! I was there with my sister in 1064-65 and lived in the castle. We are twins and came from the San Francisco Bay Area in California. We were there for a year to study French. What a wonderful experience to live with so many girls from all over the world. I have many good memories. I am sorry to hear the school closed down. My sister and I are currently in Lausanne and took a walk in the Mobt Choisi neighborhood but were unable to find the old school. We don't remember the exact location but are hoping to get a street address & directions from the historical center.

Hi My names Franci Wolfson and I attended in 76-77. I can absolutely relate to the woman who posted her experience as starting a fire and vandalizing the tennis court. Those of us in Rosemont used to use a rope ladder to escape on saturday night , dance and drink all night in Lausanne and sneak back in at breakfast as if we were just coming downstairs. Does anyone remember Gabrielle Madrossi? She taught the year I was there and was my favorite teacher.
Others there that year were Laura A from Venezuela, Keiko (Cynthia ) Japan, Elizabeth, Germany-
Samira, Nabila, Rose and Terry who was from from Texas. I'm from Florida - If anyone knows them please pass along my fond hellos.

I was at CMC 1986 - 1987. I remember Terry Garcia, Imma (from Argentina); Tin-Tin (I think from the Philippines). If anybody has a year book photos from that year would love to see them. I actually was in La Rosiaz in ?? 1994(ish) (I think)) and was able to visit the school grounds. Sad to know that it is defunct. Had a great time there - great skiing during the winter, and going to the concert in Lausanne, and sneaking out to go clubbing nearby - we got caught coming back, but it was fun!

Bonjour, Je m´appelle Lucia Guzmán Sukoff, (I´m from Colombia), I went to Mont-Choisi 1961-62 with my sister Socorro, she was at the Château and I was at the Bercail. I met Annette Bellows, Susanna&Magdalena Newman, Laura Dirnfeld, Patche, Jane, Fati from Iran Genevieve Baltao, Cecilia Miro Quesada . Mlles Françoise and Pierina were my teachers, also had Mme Lubienska as piano teacher, she was supposed to be from Russian aristocracy, Mme Elisabeth was the nurse, I remember Rawia Chourbagui, Jackie Engonopoulou, Fatima, Golnaz, my sister´s roomate was Francesca Hilton, a few years ago I contacted Francesca via FB and she sent me a short message, a few months later I read she died, I didn´t know she was not doing well. I remember when her mother ZsaZsa Gabor came to visit her at the school, we were mesmerized by her beauty. I went back in 82 to the school and saw Mlle Wirz, she looked exactly the same! I loved the Petit Mag and going to Marios´s Pizza. I would love to see some of my friends. Jane came to visit me 4 years ago and we had an amazing time. It was as if we were young kids again, 60 some years had passed since I last saw her. Cecilia MiroQuesada also came to visit me with her husband a few years back when I was living in Patagonia and we had a lovely time. You can find me on FB.
